Reflective..

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall.”

Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

Think of your blog as a mirror: what does it reveal? Consider your blog name, theme choice, design, bio, posts… what does every element tell you about yourself?

It’s long, but there are some AMAZING photos there…two rows at least of different elderly folk (men & women – all races) looking at themselves in a mirror.   What they see is incredible.

So the prompt is “Look at your blog as a mirror”.  What do I see?   A lot of words.  What do they reveal about me?  Select bits and pieces of a life.

I heard it said that everyone’s own story is the most fascinating to themselves…one may listen politely to others’ tales, but if it were known, we’re all fascinated with our own tale.   We glean connections from others’ stories…the commonality we may share about something.  The humanity of our journey.

Consider your blog name, theme choice, design, bio, posts… what does every element tell you about yourself?

My blog is entitled “Sparks From A Combustible Mind”.   I thought that up one night a long time ago (ten years or so or even more) because at the time I was writing only poetry and there were all these ‘sparks’ (poems) floating around.  My mind ‘caught fire’ from each – each had a scenario connected to it…they were ‘sparked’ by things that happened to me – memories and current events.

My theme choice is one I am currently using because it is simple and no-frills and dedicates itself well to the written word.  I’ve changed themes a few times since I discovered them while taking Blogging 101.  I come back to this one each time and so for now, I’ll just leave it.  I like it.  It is my kind of style.

The design is the for the same reason as the theme.  ‘Nuff said.

Bio?  I change that too.  All that I care to share, I do.  There is more to me, but a little mystery is good in my opinion.

Posts:  All kinds.  I am eclectic in my blog.  There isn’t a ‘theme’ running through my posts…one day you might get some humor, the next something about the illnesses of my mind and body, the next a gripe about the woes that befall me time to time.  I also have started to add the ‘prompted’ post…more sparks flying off a combustible brain I suppose.

Oh! But the ‘theme’ if one there be, is dogs.  You’ll hear references to dogs, and the banner art is all dogs.  ALL the posts aren’t about dogs, but dogs feature big in my life and even the little statement “doggedly trying to make sense of it all” is a word play on my love of dogs.  I forgot about that.  Huny (my chihuahua) will have her revenge no doubt!

All of this tells me that I am on a long journey.  The start is pretty far behind me, but the end isn’t yet in sight.  There are twists and turns, but it’s up to me to make it a pleasant or unpleasant journey.  I don’t have to look at the garbage thrown to the side of the path, I CAN focus on the wildflowers and birds and animals and nature that I see on my particular path.  And the chosen few who walk this path with me.  They are like minded folk – similar in generation for the most part, but even if not that – similar in mind set.   And I’m glad for the company!
